Ready-mix is batched at a plant and arrives as concrete, so you have a fixed volume and a working window. A volumetric mixer carries sand, stone, cement and water separately and makes the concrete on site as you draw it, so there is no window and no fixed volume.
Per cubic metre, usually slightly. In total, often less, because you stop paying for concrete you did not use and you stop paying for a second delivery when you underestimated. On a job where the volume is genuinely uncertain it is almost always the cheaper answer.
Yes, and it is one of the main reasons to choose it. A footing mix and a slab mix on the same visit is straightforward, where with ready-mix it would mean two separate deliveries.
You keep going, within what the vehicle is carrying. That is the whole point: no cold joint, no emergency second load, no gang standing around waiting for a plant to batch again.
